A Simulative Framework to Estimate P2P Performance Indexes and Traffic Matrixes

چکیده
Today, a large part of the traffic carried by the Internet is generated by file-sharing applications based on the P2P paradigm. Moreover, P2P traffic has particular features, quite different from the ones generated by "classical" data applications, and generally causes highly dynamic and distributed traffic matrixes that heavily stress network infrastructures. With this respect, it is reasonable to say that the analysis and study of the overall network performance have to take into account P2P traffic characteristics and behavior. To this purpose, the present paper approaches P2P traffic modeling activities, by describing a Gnutella simulator developed at the Telecommunication Networks and Telematics (TNT) Laboratory of DIST. The aim is well founded on the partial lack of simulators that effectively and completely describe the quantity, the characteristics and the impact of P2P traffic in networks.

SocioAware Content Distribution using P2P solutions in Hybrid Networks
The growing online traffic that is bringing the infrastructure to its limits induces an urgent demand for an efficient content delivery model. Capitalizing social networks and using advanced delivery networks potentially can help to solve this problem. However, due to the complex nature of the involved networks such a model is difficult to assess. In this paper we use a simulative approach to a...
متن کاملAn Ontology Based Local Index in P2P Networks
Peer-to-peer networks (P2P) are beginning to form the infrastructure of future applications. One of the problems with unstructured P2P networks is their scalability limitation. This is also the problem in structured P2P networks that use broadcasting to find objects. These networks can’t contain a large number of nodes because of the large amount of traffic that they have to handle. Local index...
متن کاملReducing Cross-ISP Traffic of P2P Systems: TheEnd or The Beginning of P2P Traffic Control
As Peer-to-Peer (P2P) systems are widely deployed in the Internet, P2P traffic control becomes a challenge for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and P2P system vendors. Some recent works consider the interaction between ISPs and P2P systems and propose ISP-friendly P2P traffic control mechanisms for reducing cross-ISP traffic. In this paper, we consider another fundamental problem: the interact...

Nowadays, P2P applications are commonly used in the Internet being an important paradigm for the development of distinct services. However, the dissemination of P2P applications also entails some important challenges that should be carefully addressed. In particular, some of the important coexistence problems existing between P2P applications and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are mainly mot...
متن کاملHPTP: Relieving the Tension between ISPs and P2P
Measurement-based studies indicate that there is a severe tension between P2P applications and ISPs. In this paper, we propose a novel HTTP-based Peer-to-Peer (HPTP) framework to relieve this tension. The key idea is to exploit the widely deployed web cache proxies of ISPs to trick them to cache P2P traffic. This is achieved via a process we refer to as “HTTPifying”: we segment (if necessary) l...
